Password Protected Directories
Learn more about password-protected directories as well as what they bring to your website.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that can be accessed when a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized people can look at its content. This feature could be used for the primary folder of a certain Internet site or only for a particular subfolder based upon your preferences. For instance, when you are developing a new site and you do not want people to see it before it's completely ready, you should restrict the access to it as a whole, while if you want only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you may password-protect only a particular folder, while the rest of the Internet site can be seen by everyone. In either case, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear if the login details the visitor types in are not right. Even a direct link to a file will not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take merely several clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites inside a
cloud hosting account with us. You won't need to do anything complicated - you'll have to choose a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it has to be protected, and then to enter the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. When a number of individuals require their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to set up a number of different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this feature is enabled. If you want to turn off the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the same exact section of the CP where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Hosting
You shall be able to set up password protection for any content which you have in your
semi-dedicated server account. We've included an easy-to-use tool to the Hepsia hosting Control Panel via which you will be able to switch on the feature with a few mouse clicks and with no problems, even if you are not quite tech-savvy. You will simply have to select the hostname (domain or subdomain), the particular folder which must be protected (the main folder or a subfolder) and the login name and password. The protection shall take effect at once, so if you attempt to open the password-protected URL within your browser, you'll have to type in the newly created login credentials in order to proceed. Additionally, you will be able to give different usernames for the same folder to a number of people, so you'll not need to share the same login credentials with anyone. Any password-protected folder shall have a tiny padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you shall be able to recognize such folders in no time.
