All generic domain name extensions and several country-code ones support a security lock functionality whose function is to block unapproved transfers of existing domain names. Many domain registry organizations that supervise country-code top-level domain names that don’t support this option are in the process of adopting it for better security and for the convenience of the domain registrants. A domain name can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a person who has been granted access to the account with the current domain registrar can do that. New domain names are registered with the lock feature enabled deliberately, so as to prevent any unsanctioned transfer attempts. The lock option is one of the security measures for controlling the transfer of existing domain names between registrars that have been introduced over the years.
Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting
Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is amazingly easy. This can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with our Linux cloud packages, and will require literally two mouse clicks. All your domain names will be displayed alphabetically in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll notice the domain’s current status. Click once again and you’ll change its status. The update will propagate momentarily without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can continue with the transfer straight away.
Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting
In case you have registered a domain through our company and you wish to transfer it away, you can quickly unlock it via the same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to administer your semi-dedicated server account. All domain registrations will be listed alphabetically in your account and you will notice a mini padlock icon next to each domain there, as long as its extension supports the registrar lock feature. You can see whether the domain is locked or not by clicking on this icon and modify the present status by clicking on it again. You can then proceed and initiate the domain transfer process straight away without waiting for the status to change on WHOIS lookup websites, as the update will take effect momentarily without you or us having to do anything else.
